Introducing Sam Crow – Lead Practitioner for Teaching and Learning
My name is Sam Crow and I began work with the One-Eighty team at the beginning of January 2015 as Lead Practitioner for Teaching and Learning.
The job advert immediately caught my eye, asking for an intervention specialist who could create effective individualised learning programmes for children who are struggling to engage with education. After reading the website and meeting with Johnny, I was really keen to become a part of this amazing team of dedicated professionals.
As a qualified primary school teacher with nearly twenty years’ experience and a mum of three young children, it seemed the perfect opportunity for me to combine my professional and personal skills within a new and challenging framework that would make a real difference to young lives.
My first week was group induction training with staff and volunteers. It equipped me with tools and techniques for my new role. We covered the whole intervention process from the point of initial referral, assessment of a young person’s needs, creating, monitoring, recording and evaluating weekly intervention sessions. My apprehension of ‘role play’ amongst a room full of strangers soon disappeared as we explored a range of scenarios we might encounter working with young people, and other professionals. By the end of my first week I was full of enthusiasm and ready to embark on a new and exciting career path.
