Learning Mindfulness Techniques - Creating a Calm Jar

 

Why make a calm jar?

Young people can feel overwhelmed at times with their emotions and so learning mindfulness techniques is important to enable them to take a step back and process their thoughts before deciding how to act.

Calm jars are a great way of managing tricky emotions. For example, if you are feeling a strong emotion such as anger, you can shake your calm jar to help you get the feeling out and then watch the liquid settle as you breathe and calm down.

In this video, Lily was exploring her home pack and learning to create her own calm jar.

Afterwards we talked about how if she was feeling overwhelmed, she could focus on the calm jar when she was feeling unsettled, whilst imagining her own feelings settling as she watched the glitter fall.

How can I make a calm jar or glitter jar?

It really is very simple.

All you need is a jam jar or bottle with lid (label removed), a bag of glitter and some water.
